Chesapeake Conservancy Statement on the Anne Arundel County Executive’s Green Infrastructure Master Plan

Annapolis, MD – Chesapeake Conservancy President and CEO Joel Dunn issued the following statement regarding Anne Arundel County Executive’s Green Infrastructure Master Plan.

“We are thrilled to see that the County Executive’s Green Infrastructure Master Plan is the epitome of ‘thinking globally and acting locally’ and is in concert with the President’s executive order committing to conserving 30% of the nation’s lands and waters by 2030.

“The President’s directive is a bold and necessary move to protect nature, mitigate against climate change and address longstanding inequities of access to the outdoors.

“The County Executive’s plan calls for the county to conserve 5,000 additional acres to protect 30% of our land by 2030. The plan also calls for the creation of smaller, green pockets of tree canopy and neighborhood parks in our urban communities.

“We are proud to have played a role in the creation of this plan through the production and provision of our high-resolution land cover data produced for the EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program. Here, the groundbreaking data is helping to inform the conservation movement just as we had hoped for the benefit of our communities.”
